About
All of the images shown on this site are part of my personal collection/archives. My main collecting interest is original photos of American Olympians. My archive includes original press photos, studio photos, personal photos, glass plate negatives, negatives, transparencies and magic lantern slides. A majority of the photos displayed on this site will be Pre-1932. The exceptions will be photos I have taken along with negatives and photos over which I have the rights or personal or orphan photos where the source cannot be determined. A few foreign athletes will be included when I have a good image.
When a photo is chosen to be included that is in sepia tone I will scan it in both color and gray scale. Whichever version looks better will be used. For that reason there will be signed/autographed photos that have been scanned in gray scale at that looks better. Many of the images are scanned at a low resolution, either 300 or 360 dpi. Many of the images are uncommon or these are the only copies easily available and it allows me to maintain control over the images.
I try not to manipulate the images too much. Most of the correction to the images will be limited to removal of scratches, dust, and editing marks. The image may also be lightened or darkened to enhance the appearance, but only occasionally. Most of the images will also be cropped to remove margins or to create a better overall looking image.
I am not affiliated with or associated with the International Olympic Committee or the United States Olympic Committee. Any depiction of the Olympic rings or other affiliated Olympic signage within the photos is part of the historic nature of the photos.
